Well now that I've read a number of these posts I can add in my comments. I usually command so this is a good example. I was playing a game a long time ago...probably 2.0 or something, maybe earlier. The game had been running for some time and I had been a marine. At least 30-40 minutes in the game was obviously turning on us. The aliens had 2 hives up and were pushing on the 3rd mighty hard. Res bases were going down and the map was getting really restricted. I requested to be able to command and the current commander relented. Fortunatly for me my standard rule of "a commander is only as good as his team, and the team is only as good as the commander." really shined. The team I had was responsive and really listened and worked together.
The aliens has pushed into the 3rd hive and it was going up when I sat down so I got some quick res and dropped in a couple GL's and HMG's and a few pieces of armor and made a huge push into thier original hive. Hitting them there was not what they were expecting and we were able to take the hive down before the whole alien team showed up. After the hive was locked down and we were able to secure more res nodes and the area immediatly surronding the base we spent another 20 minutes at least retaking the map and winning. It was a hell of a game and although long everyone loved it. None of the marines thought we could come back like that and the aliens were all sad but impressed.

Below are the questions Flayra was kind enough to answer for me.ENJOY!1) Competitive play has been a boon and bane to NS since the beginning, depending on who you talk to. What was the original idea behind the much-hated veteran program? Was it successful by the end or pretty much a failure?
A: I'm not sure who thinks it's been a bane, except doom-sayers that announce the "demise of NS" with every new version, news announcement, new engine, new console, etc. I also don't think the Veteran program was much-hated - the Vets I knew seemed to enjoy it.
We've always been interested in making NS great for both casual and competitive play, which is pretty much the holy grail of team games. It's a delicate balance but I think we've done a decent job of it so far. The Vet program probably wasn't worth it in the end though, as we were fundamentally trying to balance a game "internally", which is extremely time-consuming and difficult. We've learned our lesson there and are more focused on depending on the public to help balance the game.

THE COMSTELLATION IS BACKThe Unknown Worlds site has brought back the Constellation system.Donating $20 will get you the tag and help deveolped the new game coming out laterNatural Selection 2 which from the trailer they put out looks like it is going to be better graphicand game play. Their not sure how long the Constellation program will continue or if or how it will be extended for the NS2 but at some point they will likely stop accepting donations, oncethey have the income source to complete the game NS2.
